At the end of a long challenge to raise awareness of local issues in Redbridge, a team of Woodford Sixth Form students have emerged victorious as winners of the inaugural Redbridge Youth Democracy Project. Eman, Lena, Parveen and Zara successful presented, over several different events, to representatives of Redbridge Council, including to the cabinet itself, on the topic of Sexual Harassment in Schools, an issue that they were keen to highlight and to encourage the council to take action on.
Their strong presentation, backed up by careful research and well considered suggestions for action, was highly praised by members of Redbridge cabinet, with the Leader of Redbridge Council, Councillor Jas Athwal, describing it as “excellent” and noting that his cabinet would now be working to integrate the students’ findings and ideas into council policies and work streams, to ensure that the voices of young people are heard.
Huge congratulations go to these students, as well as all of those from Woodford who took part in the project in its various stages.
