Covid -19 pandemic:
The second closing of schools and the cancellation of the 2021 public examination series
In January 2021 the Government ordered a second closure of schools (to all but vulnerable students and the children of key workers). The closure was effective from Monday 5 January to Monday 8 March 2021. The Prime Minister stated it was “not possible or fair for all exams to go ahead this summer as normal” and for the second consecutive year public examinations were cancelled. With students in school from 8 March 2021, schools set about writing assessment schemes in line with published guidance from Ofqual (when it became available.) Thus the examination results reported below were based on Centre Assessed Grades, determined by a series of assessments and exams in school, as required by Ofqual.
Both GCSE and A-Level programmes of study are, normally speaking, two years in duration. The 2021 examination cohorts therefore navigated two periods of protracted school closure in the course of their studies. We are enormously proud of the way they adapted to WCHS Remote Schooling and of the results they achieved.
GCSE
Year 11 achievement was strong across the whole Year 11 cohort. Grade 9 is the highest grade allocated, reserved for the very highest performances. At Woodford this year no fewer than 41.74% of entries achieved this accolade. 17 students achieved straight 9s, 61 students achieved a complete suite of 8s & 9s and 112 students achieved nothing lower than 7s.

A-Level
Girls and their teachers and parents had much to celebrate on results day. 81% of the 480 exam entries this year were awarded A* to B grades with 24% achieving the top A* grade designed to recognise the highest levels of achievement. 10 girls achieved a clean sweep of A* grades across all their subjects and a total of 65 students had straight A* /A grades.
We congratulate every one of our A-Level candidates. We are very proud of their achievements
