Public Examination Results 2024

GCSE

GCSE results have again been very pleasing this year. This Y11 cohort joined us in September 2019 only to find their secondary education interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic and by prolonged and unprecedented periods of remote schooling. These students have not had easy passage but the resilience they had to develop young has been clearly evident in impressive achievements at GCSE in this the first exam session to see all marking concessions removed. We are very proud of the cohort and of the teachers who worked with skill and commitment to secure their wellbeing and to ensure their chances were not impacted by circumstances.

Our Key Stage 4 curriculum is a challenging one, encompassing the full English Baccalaureate with additional stretch and challenge of Triple Science for all. Our 2024 cohort had outstanding results to celebrate. We are delighted for them and extend our congratulations not only to the candidates themselves, but also to their parents and, of course, to the teachers and support staff who made it all possible.

Grade 9 is the highest GCSE grade allocated, reserved for the very best performances. At Woodford this year 28% of entries achieved this accolade, with 77% in the 9 – 7 range (equivalent to the old A* - A). 4 students achieved straight 9s and 15 students achieved a complete suite of 8s & 9s.

We hope our students will enjoy their celebrations and we look forward to welcoming them into the Sixth Form at the beginning of September.

A-Level

The A-Level results this year are the first to be marked without concession to the interruptions of the pandemic. We are delighted with our results here at Woodford.

We join our students in celebrating the results released this August (15/08/24). Attainment has been very strong across the cohort and across the curriculum. We had an excellent morning in school with students, parents and teachers.

74% of entries were graded in the top range: A* to B with 17% achieving the top A* grade designed to recognise the highest levels of achievement. 45 students achieved straight A* or A grades and 8 achieved straight A*s (one student with four A* grades).

Woodford students will be taking up places at universities all over Britain in October and indeed further afield. Oxbridge places have been confirmed for all eight students holding conditional offers.

We congratulate every one of our A-Level candidates. We are very proud of their achievements.

EPQ success in Year 12

131 students in Year 12 completed the Extended Project Qualification this year – a bumper entry!  Students undertake an independent project (generally in the form of a dissertation) on a subject of their choice.  The qualification is very popular with universities because the knowledge and skills gained are very much those needed for study at undergraduate level.  The EPQ is equivalent to half an A-level and is graded A*-E. It is 100% internally assessed.
